Brown Bag Lunch at the Jena Town Square

Held in April
Bring your brown bag lunch from home or area eateries will be offering special lunches for this day. Call in your order, go by and pick it up, and make your way to the Town Square for lunch and enjoy entertainment while visiting friends!

Jena's Green Market for Farmers, Gardeners, and Crafters!!

2nd and 4th Saturday from June - August - 9am - noon - *Weather permitting
Location: Held at the Town's Pavilion on Third Street (Next to Jena Times Office)

Jena's Green Market is a citizen ran community market for farmers, growers, and crafters to sale their home produced or homemade products.

Promoting locally grown, produced, and made items in an accessible, convenient place in Jena. We aim to educate the public on the uses and benefits of locally produced products, while encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

Annual Patriotic Celebration
Saturday prior to July 4th - 7 P.M.
The Patriotic Celebration will be held at the Amphitheater beginning at 7 p.m. located at the Jena Town Park.
  • The Community Choir will be leading traditional patriotic songs.The musical this year ephasizes appreciation for our veterans and their contribution to our freedom. The choir would like to extend a special invitation to all veterans for this tribute. There will be a formal presentation of our national colors, a flag folding service and flag retirement ceremony.
  • The Veterans of Foreign War will explain the proper meaning of each fold in the American Flag.
  • The Boy Scout Troop 14 will demonstrate the proper disposal of an American Flag.
  • Bring a lawn chair for comfort, sing along if you'd like and enjoy a salute to our country, especially our veterans.


    Jena National Night Out
    Held in August
    National Night Out, a year-long community building campaign, is designed to:
    (1) Heighten crime prevention awareness.
    (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs.
    (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
    (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

    Annual Fall Display & Scarecrow Contest

    Jena Merchant's Association is hosting its 5th Annual Fall Display and Scarecrow Contest. Entrants are asked to begin showing their displays on October 1st and to continue through October 31st.

    Howdy Neighbor Day

    October 8, 2016
    Annual event sponsored by Colonial Trails, held the same weekend as Jena High School's home coming. Festivities include entertainment, food, arts and crafts. The Howdy Neighbor Day festival is fun for all ages and a very family oriented affair.

    Downtown Block Party for Jena merchants

    Thursday - November 17, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m.

    A large number of businesses downtown and elsewhere in town usually stays open late for the party, offering early Christmas bargains.

    Each participating merchant has t-shirts to sell for $10.00 each. Each vendor will honor a 10% discount to any customer wearing the t-shirt during the block party.

    Halloween - Trick or Treat - First Annual Trunk or Treat in the Jena Town Park

    Saturday, October 29th, 2016 - 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

    The Town of Jena will observe Halloween on Saturday, October 29th from 5:00pm-8:00pm. This will also be the date and hours for the First Annual Trunk or Treat in the Jena Town Park. A big thank you to the local churches, businesses, and individuals for participating in Town of Jena Truck or Treat.

    Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner

    Friday, December 2, 2016 - 6:00 p.m.

    The Annual Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner will be held at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. Open to all residents of Jena and the surrounding areas who are 60 years of age and over.

    We will begin taking reservations to attend the dinner November 1, 2016. Please call the town hall to add your name to the reservation list.

    Approximately 200 seniors are served each year during this much appreciated community service event. To accomplish this we need the help of the local community. Some of the items needed are monetary donations, door prizes and volunteers to help serve the seniors. If you would like to participate in this event please contact Cory Floyd or Nina Wagoner at 318-992-2148.

    If you choose to make a monetary donation please make checks payable to "Senior Citizens Dinner" and mail to Town of Jena, P.O. Box 26, Jena, LA 71342. A list of those making donations to this worthy cause will be displayed at the dinner and published in the Jena Times following the events.

    Jena Christmas Parade

    Friday, December 9, 2016 at 6:00 PM

    The Jena Merchants Association has announced the theme of the Jena Christmas Parade: "A Magical Christmas".... The Grand Marshall - is Mike Adams.

    The JMA invites everyone to participate in this year’s parade. Make it a family affair!

    Town of Jena Employee Christmas Party

    Held in December - 6 P.M.

    Town of Jena Employees and their family are invited to attend the Town of Jena Employee Christmas Party in the Council Room at the town hall. Please bring a "Covered Dish". Meat and Drinks will be provided.
